Neihart Mining History
In the summer of 2019, MNHG offered to the Neihart mayor to make and mount a sign on a gazebo in Neihart that contains Neihart mining history. The Montana Department of Transportation has a sign on the highway pointing to the gazebo as an Historic Point but visitors do not realize the historic information is in the gazebo. MNHG also offered to mount a plaque on a post and place the post in concrete in front of the Neihart 1920s jail. A family donated the jail to the town of Neihart in the memory of their son who the plaque identifies. The plaque reads "Neihart Jail. Donated by Mike & Joan Berek in the memory of Joshua Berek". The gazebo and the jail are adjacent to each other. (Word has it that hitchhikers have been known to spend the night in the jail. We surmise that when one needs shelter, even a historic jail is better than nothing!)
